Stony Brook: Our Home on Long Island

All Souls Episcopal Church is nestled in the historic community of Stony Brook on the north shore of New York's Long Island. We are nearly 60 miles east of New York City. Stony Brook dates back to the 18th century and offers many historic sites, a beautiful harbor and fun shoppping.

To the west of Stony Brook, a short distance away, is the hamlet of St. James, a popular place for the rich and famous to retreat from the hectic pace of 19th century New York City. Graced with historic homes, breath-taking vistas of inlets and the Long Island Sound, St. James is a wonderful place to live or visit.

To the east of Stony Brook, down Route 25A, is Port Jefferson. Ferry service to Connecticut runs out of Port Jefferson into Bridgeport and offers a more relaxing route to New England than the Long Island Expressway. Port Jefferson is full of quirky shops, art galleries, and restaurants and is another popular visitor destination.

Perhaps best known in Stony Brook is the University Campus of Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York system. One of four university campuses around the state, Stony Brook offers a world class education from undergraduate to graduate programs. Affiliated with the university is a tertiary care hospital that serves the larger commuity of Long Island.
